Anyone else having difficulty collecting unemployment?
A question to all my fellow Sept 23 layoffs...
Are you guys collecting unemployment insurance? Or am I the only one who hasn't yet found gainful employment elsewhere?
It's been two weeks since I applied for UI, and I haven't seen a check yet. They're giving me a lot of hoops to jump through. First I had to do the online application, then I had to post my resume on the CalJobs website, now they're saying I have to go in for an interview at the end of the month. Still no word on when I start getting my money.
I've never collected before... is this normal? Any advice would be appreciated.

Hey John! I applied for unemployment the Friday of the layoff and, I too, had to complete the online form and register with Caljobs. I mailed in my first claim form last Wednesday. Each claim form is for two weeks. They say that it'll take 10 days to get your first check. Regarding the interviews, I guess they want you to be actively looking for a job and as such you "report" those interviews on the claim form.
May I resound John's question: has anyone else applied for unemployment?
John,
Are you on posted on Dice?
Hi Rick!
I posted on Dice, but I have such a wacky, non-technical skill set that I'm not holding my breath.
What happened to the job at Feature Animation? Did they keep jerking you around?

AAAAH! Now, I officially thank you for this Blog, because I was seriously uspet when I got all the same letters and BS that you boys got.
Does that abate my resentment and anger that this is how they deal with people who were legitimately laid off? HELL NO! I paid for this! Disney paid for this. How dare they even question, when most of the people I share my neighborhood with are on welfare and driving around BMW SUVs?!?!? It's not like I'm going to the Bahamas on this money! I need to pay my goddamned RENT!
Did anyone else NOT get their weekly form this past week? I'm a little concerned.
John,
I left you a VM yesterday. I got my first check and form yesterday. I also had an interview as well and asked clarification on the procedures. Call me.
Rick
Rick,
Care to share with the rest of us? I went for my interview today and it was kind of a joke, as far as I was concerned. I was there for no more than fifteen minutes. The guy checked my address and phone number then showed me how to look for a job online. He even printed one out for me. That was it. Is there more to it that I'm missing?
He sent me off saying, "Okay, just make sure you keep filling out your forms and good luck finding a job."
Is there still some sort of decision to be made?!?!!

I got my first check too, and I have my EDD interview tomorrow. Are you guys having to list what jobs you've applied for? I'm not (yet).
I have a 2nd interview with New Line Cinema this morning, so maybe I'll be able to just cancel my EDD interview.
Rick - I'll try and give you a call this afternoon.
